Small steps: scouting locations and learning what 'magical' really costs
This week I visited three potential sites and learned that wonder has a price tag — but also that the right place changes everything.

People ask how a dream this big starts. Honestly? With drives to empty fields and a notebook full of questions.
What I looked for
- Space enough for an event pavilion and guest rooms
- A setting that feels removed from the everyday — trees, open sky, room to breathe
- Access that doesn’t require a three-hour trek
Two sites were beautiful but impractical. One had something I couldn’t stop thinking about on the drive home.
The reality check
Building a destination — not just renting one — means thinking about plumbing, parking, kitchen capacity, fire codes, and a hundred things that have nothing to do with fairy lights. I’m learning fast.
But every practical detail I solve is a step closer to someone walking through those gates for the first time.
The small win
I found an architect who understood the vision immediately. We didn’t talk about brands or references. We talked about how people should feel when they arrive.
That conversation alone made this week worth it.
